What is it - a person remembered the password to his wallet, which has been inactive for 15 years? Or did someone else help him do it?

15 Years Later: Early Era Wallet Moves Bitcoins Mined in Early 2009

A dormant Bitcoin whale address has been reactivated today, transferring 5 BTC to cryptocurrency exchange Kraken, according to Arkham Intelligence.

According to the popular resource, this is the third BTC transfer in the last few weeks after a decade of silence.

Arkham data shows that the wallet received the bitcoins within the first few months of BTC’s existence, meaning it must have happened sometime between January and March 2009, given the network’s launch on January 3 of that year.

Between 2011 and 2014, the whale made several transfers of its BTC to exchanges and other addresses, after which it stopped transferring funds.

It’s worth noting that the value of their holdings has skyrocketed from under $500,000 in 2014 to around $80 million at today’s prices.

The whale was reactivated three weeks ago, making three separate transactions totaling 10 BTC. According to Arkham, he still holds 1,215 BTC (worth $77 million).

Arkham also pointed to another wallet that recently resurfaced after 15 years of “complete silence.” Their holdings were also made in the early months of Bitcoin and were worth $16 million (250 BTC) at the time.

There were also reports in early August of another dormant wallet that was active during the time of Satoshi Nakamoto. It earned 250 BTC in May 2010 and moved the money to five new wallets last month.
