Donald Trump’s MAGA (TRUMP) meme coin has fallen 15% in the last 12 hours after a lackluster performance in the presidential debate on September 10.
TRUMP peaked at $3.42 ahead of his showdown with Democratic challenger Kamala Harris. However, it fell to $2.89 as the debate wore on and Trump looked more agitated. The meme coin hit an all-time high of $17.51 on June 1 but has since fallen about 83%.
Other Trump-related but not directly affiliated tokens like MAGA Hat (MAGA) have fallen even further, falling more than 18%.
Bitcoin’s price also responded by falling 1.7% during the debate, sitting at $56,746 at the time of writing.
Donald Trump's performance was below average, seeming to have lost the energy and spirit that underpinned his MAGA (Make America Great Again) campaign.
Many Americans commented on social media that he looked "burned out" and that the campaign "actually seems to be taking its toll on Trump. He's tired and retreating." And in contrast, Harris looked "cool and in control," while Trump was "angry, at times volatile." It was also significant that the panel moderators were clearly on Kamala's side.
Which has already drawn criticism from journalists and politicians, who called it a “disgrace” that ABC, which hosted the debate, “didn’t ask a single question about the skyrocketing national debt, the rising cost of servicing that debt, the out-of-control entitlement spending, high inflation, rising unemployment, record-high consumer debt, or record-low savings rates.”
Both candidates reportedly declared victory after the debate. Trump’s team said:
“We saw President Trump lay out his bold vision for America and how he will build on the successes of his first term by stimulating the economy, securing the border, and stopping the crime that is ravaging communities across the country.”
Meanwhile, Kamala Harris’s camp said that “Donald Trump has been completely inconsistent,” before adding:
“Under the bright lights, the American people saw the choice they face in the election this fall: move forward with Kamala Harris or move back with Trump.”
Polls released earlier this week showed the race for the Oval Office as close as ever, with Harris and Trump each receiving 49 percent support among registered voters.
